Mobilising against the privatisation and commercialisation of health care in the Phillippines-7 April!

6 Apr 2016
On April 7, World Health Day, we are happy to inform you that PHM Philippines will be holding a picket rally in front of the WHO WPRO office here in Manila to demand that WHO plays a stronger role in protecting people's health and upholding the people's right to health. This will also be a time to challenge the government and other international health bodies like the WHO to stop the privatization and commercialization of health care and reneging on the government's responsibilihilasty to take care of our people's health.  It is also a call on the Philippine government to resist from signing the TPPA and for WHO to actively denounce the TPPA as a trade measure that relegates health as a commodity and not as a right, and for public health service to be the core of health care.
This action will denounce the continuing assaults on people's health such as the various tools of privatization and insurance schemes being peddled in the name of universal health care, another scheme that will be exposed for its deception in its so called aim of achieving good health for all.
The picket rally will start at 10:00 am in front of the WHO WPRO office on UN Avenue, Manila and will be participated in by members of PHM and other co sponsoring groups such as the International League of People's Struggles (ILPS) Health Commission, Health Alliance for Democracy, Health Action for Human Rights, Council for Health and Development, Alliance of Health Workers, Community Medicine Development Foundation, Health Students Action, Kilos Bayan para sa Kalusugan, and other people's organizations and community health workers groups.  There will be different speakers from the communities, health academe and health and other multi sectoral organizations,  There will also be some singing and street drama.  The activity will end with an organized dispersal towards Taft Ave.
We are one with you in your day of action, too, in Europe.  Wishing you, too,  a successful event.
Thanks and best regards,
