Here at IoM, the Institute of Medicine, Nepal, Prof. Dr. Govinda KC began his fast-unto-death against political appointment of the dean. The Tribhuvan University Executive Council appointed Dr.Sashi Sharma dean of IoM only a month after Dr. Prakash Sayami had resigned amid unrelenting pressure regarding granting affiliations to new medical colleges. Dr. KC has demanded that the government stop affiliating new medical colleges, end political interference in IoM and take action against the present concerned office bearers of the university.
The South African national newspaper has published a report on accessing health care during the farmworkers strike submitted by volunteers of PHM South Africa together with Women on Farms Project and several farm workers! The Department of Health will be publishing a response in next weeks edition of the newspaper.

Our gathering We, as signatories of this statement, express our protest at the current economic, social & political world order. We stand in solidarity with a global assembly of the People’s Health Movement in Cape Town and share their energy & vision for a better future. We convey our outrage at the remaining inequalities both within and between countries despite previous commitments at the global, national and local levels. We express our support for the People’s Charter for Health and reinforce health as a fundamental human right.
Climate change is the largest threat to global health in history. Health systems, on the other hand, exist to promote, protect and improve people’s health, and to prevent and treat disease. As large, resource and energy-intensive organizations that employ many people, health systems produce large amounts of greenhouse gases. Therefore, they contribute to climate change, raising the paradox that, on balance, they may, inadvertently, do people’s health more harm than good in the long term.
The advent of the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme opens up a political space to campaign for a health service that will best address South Africa’s health crisis and reduce the extreme inequities between poor and rich, rural and urban, and public sector and private health service users.
