Health Centre Committees: Vital for people centered health systems in Zimbabwe

By Itai Rusike, Community Working Group on Health (CWGH)

The principle that health is a basic and a fundamental human right can never be overemphasized. For any country to be successful it must guarantee that every individual in that country has access to health, which is affordable and available. Participation by the community in Health matters and budget formulation give a greater depth to the discussion and understanding of the health issues in the country and facilitates achievement of the same goal.

The Community Working Group on Health (CWGH) is a network of community/civic based organisations whose aim is to collectively enhance community participation in health in Zimbabwe. Traditionally the National Health budget has been formulated by the technocrats at the ministerial level without the direct input or suggestion of the community.
