Norwegian doctor Mads Gilbert testifies about the hell of Gaza

Professor Mads Gilbert is a Norwegian emergency physician who gained international fame for his support to the Palestinian people. From the Al-Shifa hospital in besieged Gaza, he challenged Obama to spend one night in the hospital during the murderous Israeli bombing campaign. After two weeks working in the war zone, he left Gaza last Monday. On the way back home, he made a stopover in Brussels to testify about his experience.

“My key message is clear,” he says, “This is an all-out war against Palestinian civilians.”

The Jan Swasthya Abhiyan (JSA) wishes to express its deep concern regarding recent extensive reports in the media, which have highlighted the all-pervading nature of corruption in the health sector. JSA would like to recall and reiterate the main features of corruption in the private sector in health care and call upon the government to act firmly against this. Such corruption leads to huge increases in the costs of care, causes impoverishment and compromises health outcomes for individuals and for society.

PHM South Africa condemns the arrest of community health workers in the Free State and calls for their formal employment within the health system

No to corporate power!

June 24-26, Claudio Schuftan, PHM representative on the global Steering Committee of the PHM, attended a meeting organized by FIAN and TNI (Transnational Institute) to discuss the role and responsibilities of TNCs in the food sector, to prepare the strategy towards the upcoming International Conference on Nutrition (ICN+2, November 2014) and to accompany and lobby for the Human Rights Council vote on setting up a workgroup to regulate TNCs' resposibilities in the future. The resolution was approved and it was a reason for celebration.

MSP Brasil Recebe Visita Especial

A médica boliviana Vivian Camacho, integrante do Movimento pela Saúde dos Povos, esteve no Brasil no último mês de abril. Percorreu várias cidades, em vários estados, trocando experiências e promovendo a saúde. Foram muitos encontros potentes, com ativistas do MSP Brasil e outros movimentos que lutam pela saúde, com universidades, com trabalhadores da saúde.
De Fortaleza, Ceará, nordeste do país, onde participou do Congresso da Rede Unida, até Porto Alegre, extremo sul, Vivian participou de diversas atividades, passando também pelo Rio de Janeiro e por São Paulo.

PHM Brazil Receives Special Visitor

Bolivian doctor Vivian Camacho, member of the People's Health Movement, was in Brazil last April. She visited many cities in several states, exchanging experiences and promoting health. There were many powerful encounters with PHM activists and other health movements, with universities, and with health care workers. From Fortaleza, northeastern Brazil, where she attended the Congress of the Rede Unida, to Porto Alegre, southern end of the country, Vivian participated in various activities, also passing through the states of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

PHM-USA connects with US health activists at this year's Left Forum

PHM-USA was present at the Left Forum held in New York City at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY) from May 31-June 2. The Left Forum is the largest gathering of the U.S. Left and examines a variety of topics such as health, labor unions, racism, sexism and the environment, through a progressive lens. With up to 6,000 people attending this year, the theme of the conference was Reform and/or Revolution: Imagining a World with Transformative Justice.

WHO faces civil society ire for ties with pharma-backed norm setting body

NEW DELHI: At the ongoing 67th World Health Assembly in Geneva, public health organisations have objected to the World Health Organization's (WHO) participation in the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH), which they describe as "a de facto standard setting body set up by transnational pharmaceutical industry to serve their business interests".
